A Real Life “You Know You are Having a Bad Day When”

The following story is true. The names have not been changed to protect the innocent.

You know you are having a bad day when:

You get up and hear the toilet dripping.

You decide to checkout what is the problem in order to get the parts.

You tighten one of the obvious quick fixes- the tank bolt which does appear slightly loose. You then look down and are standing in a puddle of water.

You reach down and turn off the water shut-off valve except it does not not shut the water off.

You race down the cellar and find a stick and piece of wire to hold the ball up to shut off the water.

You decide to turn off the valve in the cellar that supplies the bathroom. The handle comes off in your hand and water comes pouring out from where the handle was.

You unsuccessfully try to stop up the hole. Even with the main water shutoff the water that was in the pipes is leaking out.

You go to the hardware store and buy the needed parts including a mini-hacksaw to cut the pipe since the valve is located next to a furnace duct and a regular hacksaw will not fit. There are two models of mini hacksaw available you choose the cheaper one.

You come home and start to cut through the pipe just as you cut through the pipe the blade falls out of your new mini-hacksaw. The hole you made in the pipe is aimed directly at your face.

You replace the blade and continue to cut while taking an unplanned shower. The phone rings.

You answer the phone, and return to the new shower in the cellar and finish cutting the pipe.. Finally all the water is drained from the pipe and on you.

You repair the valve.

You  replace the tank bolt on the toilet and hear it still leaking.

While cleaning up the mess around the toilet you notice the bowl floor seal is leaking, you notice the nuts are corroded off the floor bolts. So the toilet will have to be removed to replace the bolts, after you replace the defective valve behind the toilet so you can shut the water off at the toilet.

The good news: you decide to install a new water saving toilet when your son comes home from college for spring break and can help you.  Maybe even two!!!!
